About this health test

This at-home CRP Test Kit is used to measure the level of inflammation in your blood by analysing the C-reactive protein in your blood. C-reactive protein is a key infection marker, and high inflammation can detect your risks of developing medical issues like cardiovascular disease or arteriosclerosis.ย

The test itself is a simple finger prick blood test, and results from the test will put you in the best position to make a positive change. This change should almost always include speaking to a GP, who will provide medical advice, and advice on living a preventative and healthy lifestyle.

  • How the test works

When the CRP blood test makes it to the lab, analysts review the level of c-reactive protein in the blood. C-reactive protein is made in the liver, and normally low levels of c-reactive protein would be found.

If you have inflammation in your body, though, it is likely that the c-reactive protein levels will be higher. This could indicate a serious medical issue which should be investigated further.

  • When to test

The ideal time to test your CRP is in the morning, as this gives you plenty of time to get your test in the post.

You should also aim to test on Monday-Thursday, so your post is dispatched and will arrive at our labs in the best possible condition.

Please ensure that you have eaten and drank plenty of water before testing.

  • What is the C-reactive protein (CRP) blood test?

The CRP blood test is a test that measures the C-reactive protein (CRP) in your blood. Raised CRP levels suggest that your body is currently fighting inflammation, which may be the result of medical issues.

  • Why would I need a CRP blood test?

After reviewing your medical evidence, our doctors can provide up to 7 days of sickness leave with your certificate.

If you are still unwell after the initial 7-day period, you may apply for a further sickness certificate for additional leave.

  • What do my CRP blood test results mean?

If your test comes back and shows that you have high levels of CRP, it may suggest that your body is dealing with inflammation brought on by a medical issue. If your CRP levels come back high, it is recommended you book an appointment with your GP, or book a rapid appointment with one of our ZoomDoc GPs.

  • Why would I need a CRP blood test?

Your doctor may ask you to take a CRP blood test to check if your body is fighting any inflammation and to rule out certain medical issues. These medical issues may include severe bacterial infections like sepsis, bone infections like osteomyelitis, fungal infections, and more.

How to take your home blood test

โ€ Infection and inflammation can be monitored with a C-reactive protein (CRP) blood test. Repeated tests often enables doctors to determine if a current infection is improving or not. If you have an acute infection or inflammation your results may be abnormally high.

If you are well, you can check your CRP to see if you have any underlying levels of inflammation”
