How ZoomDoc can help your holiday go smoother
May 25, 2023

If you’ve booked a holiday, you won’t want anything to spoil it – especially if the sun, sea and sand awaits. But, as organised and as excited as you may be, it only takes one of the kids breaking out in chickenpox before you go or a dodgy tummy on holiday stopping you making your flight home to complicate things.

Luckily ZoomDoc can help! From making insurance claims quicker and easier, to providing proof a rash is OK to fly with, here’s how we can help make your travel plans go as smoothly as possible this summer.

  • Get a prescription ASAP

Talk to your GP a few months before you set off. They can help you sort out any extra medication you might need before you leave.

There’s a lot to organise before a holiday, especially when it comes to packing. Getting sick in the lead up to it or suddenly realising you need a prescription for the trip can be a last-minute curveball you weren’t expecting. But don’t panic.

If you’re struggling to see a GP in time before you jet off, download the ZoomDoc app to speak with one of our doctors at a time to suit you. If you require a prescription, it can be sent straight to your home or nearest pharmacy. As it’s a private prescription you will have to pay for it, even if you’re normally eligible for free NHS prescriptions. But you will get it in time for your holiday, at least.

  • Prove you can fly with chickenpox

Any person, including children with chickenpox cannot fly if they are developing new spots or are still infectious

Unfortunately, chickenpox can be a real spanner in the works when it comes to holidays. That’s because it’s highly infectious and airlines won’t let you fly while you’re still contagious. Anyone who has or has had chickenpox can only fly once all the spots have crusted over, usually about 5-6 days after spots first appear.

However, even then, your child may still have visible spots on them. To prove that they’re no longer contagious and to be able to board a flight with no hold-ups, you’ll need to have a chickenpox recovery certificate with you. Although this is available from your NHS GP, it can take time to get one, so save yourself the stress by ordering it via ZoomDoc instead.

Simply download the ‘Chickenpox Recovery Fit-To-Fly’ letter and for just £40 you’ll receive a same-day certificate verifying your child’s scabbed-over chickenpox is no longer infectious and they can travel.

  1. Sort a ‘Fit to Fly’ letter in seconds

After week 28 of pregnancy, the airline may ask for a letter from confirming your due date, and that you are not at risk of complications

If you’re going abroad and are pregnant, you may need a ‘Fit to Fly’ letter to prove to the airline that you don’t have any complications preventing you from travelling. It also confirms your due date and how far along you are.

Most airlines recommend you carry a certificate with you from the start of your third trimester (28 weeks). Again, you can get a letter from your NHS GP but you may have to pay for it. Not only that, you’ll need to make an appointment to get one and then will have to return at a later date to collect it.

To make the whole process a lot less stressful, order a ‘Pregnancy Fit to Fly’ letter from ZoomDoc, via our Medical Letters service. For just £40 you’ll receive a same-day ‘Fit to Fly’ certificate, no appointment necessary. Our team of doctors will assess your medical history and current health status to make sure both you and your baby are safe to travel.

  1. Help you if you have to cancel your holiday

If you need to cancel your holiday it is important to know where you stand before you speak to your travel agent or insurer.

No matter how healthy you are, getting travel insurance for everyone who’s travelling is key. It will mean you can get medical treatment or assistance for anyone who falls ill or gets injured while you’re there, which is essential in a foreign country.

It will also mean you’re protected financially, if someone gets ill or injured and can’t make the flight there or back. For instance, if that bout of chickenpox hasn’t crusted over fully or someone’s just too unwell to travel.

Although these things can and do happen, they can be incredibly stressful to sort out with your travel or insurance company. That’s where ZoomDoc can help. We can provide a ‘Travel & Holiday Cancellation’ certificate quickly and effortlessly for your insurance company – no appointment required. This certificate will confirm the reason for cancellation, for example, illness or injury and that cancellation is advised in our medical opinion, if you’ve not yet cancelled.
