Your questions answered

When do I need a fit-to-fly letter for chickenpox?
A chickenpox fit-to-fly certificate is a letter that confirms your chickenpox has scabbed over, and no longer pose a risk of infecting others. Chickenpox can be highly contagious, and as such it is paramount that you confirm you no longer pose an infection risk if you are about to be in close proximity with other people, such as on a flight or at work.
How do you prove you have chickenpox?
Chickenpox are relatively easy to diagnose, and most doctors will be able to confirm whether you have chickenpox based on a visual examination. For this reason, ZoomDoc’s doctors can usually diagnose a patient with chickenpox or confirm a chickenpox recovery with a simple video diagnosis. Once your chickenpox has been diagnosed you can get a medical letter that confirms recovery, or one that confirms the condition is still present, which can be used as evidence for a variety of reasons such as work or travel.
Can I obtain a chickenpox recovery certificate if I am based outside the UK?
Our team of doctors provide are able to provide chickenpox recovery certificate no matter where you are in the world – whether you live outside the UK or you are on holiday internationally. Our team of doctors are fully insured to provide medical certificates to patients around the globe.
What happens if I’m not fully recovered from chickenpox?
If our doctors feel the chickenpox spots are not fully scabbed over, and that you or your child are still infectious, they will issue a letter stating that you are ‘Not fully recovered’ and ‘Not fit-to-fly’. This can be used for insurance purposes and rearranging flights with your airline or travel company. Chickenpox can cause problems with immunocompromised individuals and during pregnancy. Our doctors have a clinical responsibility to ensure that we only sign off patients to travel who are no longer infectious.
What information and medical evidence do you require from me?
After purchase, you will receive a unique certificate booking reference number, which will allow you to upload your medical evidence via a simple form. To allow us to assess your condition and issue a medical certificate, we will require the following information:

  • A photo of your passport
  • Confirmation of when your chickenpox spots first appeared, and that you are now well
  • A 30-second to 1-minute video confirming that your chickenpox spots have scabbed over
  • Details of your airline and flight
Who signs the certificate and how do I know it’s legitimate?
Once your medical evidence has been checked your certificate will be authorised and signed by one of our selected Doctors. All our doctors are UK GPs registered with the GMC (General Medical Council) and the FCDO (Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office). Zoomdoc Health is an authorised medical provider regulated by the Care Quality Commission. Our contact details will be shown on your certificate with a QR code enabling a verification check of your certificate.
How long is this medical certificate valid?
This certificate is valid for both your outbound and return journeys. To ensure airline acceptance, please obtain the certificate within one week of your expected outbound travel date.
What happens if you cannot validate my medical evidence?
Our doctors thoroughly review your medical evidence and may call you if they have any questions. If for any reason, we are unable to validate your evidence or are unable to supply you with you a certificate you will be notified and given a full refund.
